Semi-retired since last year, prima ballerina Lisa Macuja-Elizalde answers the call of the stage anew in Rebel. In Ballet Manila’s contemporary version of Spartacus – in which characters and events are derived from the historic EDSA Revolution – Lisa dances the role of Inang Bayan. She wears the colors of the Philippine flag, in a design created by Jeffrey Rogador. Inang Bayan witnesses a tumultuous period in local history that eventually leads to the return of democracy. Rebel will have its world premiere on February 25, the 30th anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution, at Aliw Theater.
